The collection of the former Ampex Museum is in the same state -- boxed up and out of reach in a 
Stanford-owned warehouse. I had to wait over a month, pay a hefty fee for photocopies and agree not 
to "redistribute" a simple schematic to an Ampex amplifier. Very frustrating, since I've put in 
dozens if not hundreds of hours scanning and making available to everyone (thanks to a generous 
friend's web space) every Ampex manual and schematic I can find.

There is ZERO commercial value in the Ampex Museum documentation held at Stanford. It's 
irresponsible of them to keep it so far out of reasonable public access. I have offered to help them 
prioritize and scan it, and even offered to give some of it a better home. I'm most interested in 
getting the rest of the audio manuals and schematics online, especially the theater equipment. There 
is also some interest in the instrumentation equipment, but that's probably never going to fit in my 
time availability (but I'd get it hosted if someone else scanned it). Video equipment, too (although 
the video gurus tend to have the documentation they need on-hand) -- happy to see that someone 
else's scans get hosted online.
