If you're playing quarter track tapes, you have no choice but to use a quarter track machine, (I assume, perhaps erroneously, that by "4 track" you mean "quarter track"). A half track machine will play both sides of the tape at the same time - one program going backwards. If you're playing half track stereo tapes, you should be using a half track machine. A quarter track machine will play these tapes with an imbalance between channels. So the short answer is your machine should match your tapes. db On Sunday, May 18, 2014 8:39:16 PM, Jan Myren <[log in to unmask]> wrote: > > >HI! > >I would like to ask you if there are any big differences of using a 2 track >rather than 4 track reel to reel machine? > >I use a 4-track Revox B77 II machine now and see that there somtimes pop up >2 track machines for sale at acceptable prices. > >Is there any options to consider 2 track/4 track? >Should I own both of them? > >Hopes for response from you! > >All the best >Jan > > > >
