That valuation is what the company is worth to Apple. What they are not buying for that number is a streaming service or a headphone company. They are buying Jimmy Iovine, who is the best marketer in the music business and his Rolodex. 

Apple does not have the insight or connections that are required to enter that world and Jimmy does. 
Whether that is a bad bet remains to be seen but Jimmy Iovine is one shrewd dude that is for sure.
