 In the case of 2 dates in one $c, we'd assume it's one printing, not two.

Wouldn't that depend on whether both imprints are in all items, or whether some items have one imprint, and others the other imprint?

Often reprints have two dates.  In older records, you may see one in curves after the other. e.g., $c1990 (2005 printing).
