Back in March, when HL colleagues and I were doing a project to correct a group of corporate NARs, we felt the same need to signal to people that the main heading
would soon be deleted. While the project was underway, another library created a new sub-heading—we wanted to prevent more of the same.
I asked Paul Frank if we could change the Upd status to “b” or add a 936 as is done for CONSER bib records marked for deletion. Paul replied that a 667 would
be better, since it is more visible than a fixed field value. Those who don’t catalog serials will be more familiar with 667 too. Paul suggested I try using 667 this way, and later we could assess the practice for possible expansion into other areas of NACO
work.
By the time the project was completed, I had forgotten about assessing and following up on this. It does seem like a helpful thing. Shall we discuss? Any
reasons not to make this a best practice?

This probably isn’t standard practice but I sometimes include this information in a 667 field.

I wish there were a way that NARs could be marked as reported for deletion the same way that CONSER records can be marked with a 936 field.

LCCN no2014086391 Kahn, Jeffrey ‡q (Jeffrey Paul) is a duplicate of LCCN n 92804412 Kahn, Jeffrey P. The National Library of Medicine updated n 92804412 and reported the duplicate record to NACO for deletion on Oct. 27, 2014. I would
use Kahn, Jeffrey P. in your cataloging.

Dear Colleagues,
We are trying to resolve a name authority question. My colleague has explained the situation in his message to the NACO office below. We were referred to
the listserv, because you are the experts. Could someone please resolve this for us?
Thank you,
Christina Bellinger
