Dear Steven,
I apologize for the late reply, your email never made it to the mailing list, and neither to my mailbox. I am not sure why. Matthew Horridge has forwarded me your message.
We are actively monitoring the protege-shortcourse mailing list (
[log in to unmask]). We are also planning
to offer a 3-day short course between March 25 -27, 2015 at Stanford. We usually have one offering of the short course every year.
Thank you very much for the invitation to teach at the ALA meeting. It seems like a great opportunity. We need to discuss within our group if we will have the resources to attend, and if the staff will be available for those days. Several of our colleagues
are currently attending AMIA in Washington, and once they are back later in the week, we will discuss and get back to you.
In any case, please consider if you would be able to attend the 3-day short course at Stanford. Even with a 3-day course, it is very intense and packed. It is quite hard to compress the OWL and ontology engineering topics into one day. Having some more information
on what you expect from the 1-day course would also help us determine if it is possible to teach the content in one day.
Best regards,
Tania
Subject: FW: Fundamentals of Ontology Development at ALA 2015
Date: 30 October 2014 08:06:31 GMT-5
Dear All,
I wrote to the Protg-Shortcourse email address a few days ago, but it occurred to me that perhaps that email is no longer being monitored given that the course seemed to be a one-time thing. I hope you will consider my request (below) to participate
in a Fundamentals of Ontology Development at the 2015 American Library Association Conference in San Francisco.
Sincerely,
Steven
Dear Protg Short Course Organizers,
Darren Webber (he and I work on the LD4L Mellon Grant together) suggested I contact you about possibly serving as instructors for a one-day pre-conference
at the America Library Association Conference 2015 (being held in San Francisco: June 25-30, 2015).
An ALA committee I co-chair is attempting to organize a pre-conference that will provide library professionals with fundamentals for ontology development and best practices so that they can better provide library data on the open web, make informed decisions
about existing ontologies, and participate more confidently in the development of
BIBFRAME.
Your day 1 of the short course sounds very similar to what we would like to offer. Would you be interested/able to serve as an instructor for a pre-conference like this? If so, perhaps we could set up a call to discuss our goals
for the event and your experiences teaching this content.
Thanks for your consideration,
Steven
