This was somehow inadvertently sent to the list, too many draft emails open at once.

My apologies,
Steven

Tania,

Thanks for the heads-up. Ive spoke with my supervisors about funding the short course; fingers crossed.

Ill talk to my co-chair about her availability over the next couple weeks to set up a phone call; Ill get back to you asap.

Thanks,
Steven

Hi Steven,

We have published the details of the next Protege short course on our website:

http://protege.stanford.edu/shortcourse/201503/index.html

It would be great if you could attend! Please feel free to spread the word to others who might be interested.

I am back in the office now, and we could have a telecon sometimes in the next two weeks to talk about the June course. Just let me know what works for you.

All the best,
Tania

Hi Steven,

Just a quick follow up on the 1-day course in June. We are interested in doing it, thank you again for the invitation!

We will have to redo the lectures, as some of them are not appropriate for a 1-day course. It would make sense to have a teleconference, so that we can customize the course to best suit your needs. My colleagues will probably ask me if there will be a honorarium, so I am just checking :)

I am out of office until Dec. 8. We can follow up with the details when I am back.

Best regards,
Tania

Tania,

Thanks for the response. The panel were attempting to assemble would be a blend of ontology experts to teach ontologies 101 (Im not sure we can fit it anything on reasoning and querying), along with library professionals with ontology experience to give domain specific context to the pre conference.

Im definitely interested in the Protg Short Course; Im attempting to use both the web and downloadable version for some work Im doing right now. Are there specific places I should be watching for registration announcements? If you're interested, I would be happy to forward registration announcements to appropriate library lists.

Thanks again for your consideration,
Steven

Dear Steven,

I apologize for the late reply, your email never made it to the mailing list, and neither to my mailbox. I am not sure why. Matthew Horridge has forwarded me your message.

We are actively monitoring the protege-shortcourse mailing list ([log in to unmask]). We are also planning to offer a 3-day short course between March 25 -27, 2015 at Stanford. We usually have one offering of the short course every year.

Thank you very much for the invitation to teach at the ALA meeting. It seems like a great opportunity. We need to discuss within our group if we will have the resources to attend, and if the staff will be available for those days. Several of our colleagues are currently attending AMIA in Washington, and once they are back later in the week, we will discuss and get back to you.

In any case, please consider if you would be able to attend the 3-day short course at Stanford. Even with a 3-day course, it is very intense and packed. It is quite hard to compress the OWL and ontology engineering topics into one day. Having some more information on what you expect from the 1-day course would also help us determine if it is possible to teach the content in one day.

Best regards,
Tania

Dear All,

I wrote to the Protg-Shortcourse email address a few days ago, but it occurred to me that perhaps that email is no longer being monitored given that the course seemed to be a one-time thing. I hope you will consider my request (below) to participate in a Fundamentals of Ontology Development at the 2015 American Library Association Conference in San Francisco.

Sincerely,
Steven

Dear Protg Short Course Organizers,

Darren Webber (he and I work on the LD4L Mellon Grant together) suggested I contact you about possibly serving as instructors for a one-day pre-conference at the America Library Association Conference 2015 (being held in San Francisco: June 25-30, 2015). An ALA committee I co-chair is attempting to organize a pre-conference that will provide library professionals with fundamentals for ontology development and best practices so that they can better provide library data on the open web, make informed decisions about existing ontologies, and participate more confidently in the development of BIBFRAME.

Your day 1 of the short course sounds very similar to what we would like to offer. Would you be interested/able to serve as an instructor for a pre-conference like this? If so, perhaps we could set up a call to discuss our goals for the event and your experiences teaching this content.

Thanks for your consideration,
Steven
