I use EXCEl spreadsheet since the nineties. I developed intuitively a field
database that in the end was very near to the ARSC system. I use text
fields to fill in the information "as it is" and numerical key fields for
sorting by dry numbers (catalogue numbers, matrix numbers, control numbers,
etc). I register key titles of great works, songs, etc. and artists, and I
use always the same spelling, adding between brackets "the real thing" if
it's worth (pseudonyms, etc). It is simple, but in the end I have some 30
fields (columns). Now I have almost 10,000 registers (both sides of each
78). Still manageable. And EXCEL filter and sorting tools are great and
comfortable to use.
