Tim

Sorry, I’m not aware of usage outside of team who maintain the vocabularies.

Cheers

Thank you, Gordon, this approach looks promising as a way to preserve legacy data and fill in gaps in emerging vocabularies like BIBFRAME. Do you know of other examples of the MARC21RDF vocabularies being used "in the wild"?

I discussed a method for extracting MARC 21 006, 007, and 008 fields as linked data in the blog post “Low hanging MARC fruit” [1]

The method minimises the use of mapping tables and scripts, essentially to the condition determined by the MARC Leader as to which vocabulary encoding schemes (VES) to use. After that is processed, the property URIs are derived directly from the encoding syntax (character position, etc.), and no extrinsic mapping tables are required.

The extraction is lossless and round-trippable. The resulting triples can be readily dumbed-down to interoperate with data from non-MARC communities [2]

It is true that the fixed-field data in many MARC 21 records is of low quality as a result of inattention, retro-conversion errors, and misinterpretation. But many records have high quality fixed-field data, particularly those created by national bibliographic agencies, so completely ignoring these fields will result in the loss of valuable data.

Cheers

What is "consistent"? If you're saying XSLT could not do exactly the same job as Python here, you are mistaken.

Reusable, yes. Consistent, no.
