Lonnie Johnson recorded a couple of jazz violin tracks in 1925. They are
in the 4-CD box set of Johnson on JSP records.

In the family band in New Orleans, his father and brother(s) played
the violin parts while Lonnie played guitar, but the violin was the
first instrument he learned as a child.

That band played whatever people wanted to hear, including rags and
blues.
