Officially established in October 2006, the Orlando VA Medical Center is one of the Top 100 Companies in Central Florida for working families. The Orlando VA Medical Center includes a 120-bed Community Living Center and a 60-bed Residential Rehabilitation Program, located at the Lake Nona Campus, Outpatient Clinics in Orlando (Lake Baldwin), Viera and Daytona Beach and four Community Based Outpatient Clinics located in Clermont, Kissimmee, Leesburg, and Orange City. A new inpatient facility is currently under construction in southeast Orange County and is expected to open in 2015. The new 65-acre medical campus will have 134-inpatient beds and provide acute care, complex specialty care, advanced diagnostic services, a large multispecialty outpatient clinic, and administrative and support services.

The incumbent serves as the librarian for the Medical Library in the Education Service at the Orlando VA Medical Center. The Medical Librarian works with a variety of electronic and written information and documents, crossing boundaries of disciplines and services. They develop authoritative collections, electronic and traditional, specifically targeted to the information requirements of OVAMC staff, so that information needs can be met clinically and cost effectively. Medical Librarians integrate knowledge and information into the organization that clinicians then use to make better informed clinical decisions and administrators use to effectively pursue and meet organizational priorities. Targeted collections and services, developed by OVAMC Medical Librarians, support self-directed, problem-based learning consistent with adult learning principles. Medical Librarians serve as information experts, linking OVAMC staff to authoritative and relevant information that facilitates decision-making, contributes to excellence in education, and encourages research and innovation.Major Duties:

*         Executes complex searches providing accurate and reliable information that affects clinical and management decisions and provides context for research efforts and encourages the self-directed learning of OVAMC staff.

*         Provides assistance in the establishment and recommendation of the scope and extent of the programs and services offered.

*         Assists in establishing, implementing, reviewing, and revising program guidelines, policies, and operating procedures as they relate to the Medical Library.

*         Provides training for clinical staff, teaching access and use of scientific databases and e-resources with application to clinical practice.

*         Answers a wide range of complex and comprehensive medical and health reference questions for clinical and allied health staff, researchers, administrative personnel, leadership and health.

*         Ensures that service assistance is provided to new and established professional, para-professional and management staff, as well as other hospital employees who need to use the Medical Library.

*         Evaluates the library collection, identifies gaps, selects scientific resources to fill these gaps, and proactively identifies and removes outdated materials from the library collection.

*         Responsible for the development of a comprehensive, authoritative, and quality Medical Library collection (encompassing print and electronic materials) that is broad in scope to cover all areas of medical knowledge and penetrating in coverage to meet the informational, clinical, educational, and research needs of Medical Center personnel.

*         Provides customer service to library patrons in person, via email, phone and through online sessions.

*         Performs other duties as assigned.
