It is certainly possibly to create expression access points for such cases, although many libraries aren't doing that. Here's a similar example:

100 1_ |a Langland, William, |d 1330?-1400? |t Piers Plowman |s (A-text). |l English |g (Covella)

This is an access point for Covella's translation of the A-text version of Piers Plowman.

Note that the subfield |g really ought to be another |s but unfortunately MARC doesn't have repeatable |s. Bob Maxwell and I've raised this issue with PCC some time ago but we haven't seen a proposal come forth to make |s repeatable.

I have been concerned about this for awhile. What if a translation is from a different edition of a work than the first? How is that expressed in the AAP for that expression that would be different from the one translated from the first?
And if it can't be done, why not? How can the patron know without opening each record?

As an example of how complicated this can be, read the review of the Encyclopedia of Ancient Christianity in the Journal of Early Christian Studies, vol. 23, no. 3, fall, 2015, p. 488-489. How would all those expressions be created in the authority file so the patron is led to the edition/translation that she/he is looking for? At the very least, there should be be a $f in every AAP for an expression to differentiate one from the other. Read the review and the history of its publication in Italian (original) and the various editions of it, and the various editions of the translations.
