What's Covered:
Information "commons" is an evolving concept that has the potential for increased accessibility, collaboration, and cross-fertilization of ideas in the advancement
of science. The development of a commons, however, can present many challenges, including issues related to privacy, security and cultural changes within networked research communities.
Join CENDI, NFAIS, and the Research Data Alliance on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 as we explore the various concepts about the information commons that are
evolving and examples of what the future could bring.
Collaborate with peers and hear from these industry experts:
John Wilbanks, Chief Commons Officer, Sage Bionetworks
Dr. Michael Carroll, Professor of Law and Director, Program on Information Justice and Intellectual Property, American University Washington College of Law
Dr. Robert Grossman, Chair - Open Cloud Consortium, The University of Chicago, Open Data Group, The University of Chicago Booth School of Business
Laurie Goodman, Editor-In-Chief, GigaScience
Dr. Maurie Kelly, DataCommons@PSU, Director of the Informatics Group at Penn State Institutes of Energy and the Environment, Penn State University
Dr. Merce Crosas, Project Lead - Dataverse, Director of Data Science at the Institute for Quantitative Social Science (IQSS), Harvard University
Attendees will learn about:
·
What is evolving in the area of the commons
·
Policy and legal issues associated with the commons
·
Case studies focusing on the elements needed to develop a commons for a particular research community
·
Changes in culture and science before and after the use of commons approaches
