TO                :    Network Libraries

FROM         :    Richard Smith, Chief, Network Division

SUBJECT   :    NLS accepting A-to-D titles on BARD

NLS is prepared to begin receiving network-produced analog-to-digital (A-to-D) transfer audiobooks for posting on the Braille and Audio Reading Download (BARD) website. Libraries that wish to submit A-to-D audiobooks for BARD must be certified for open submission by the Network-Produced Audiobooks on BARD pilot.

Please refer to the following resources:

All network-produced audiobooks submitted to BARD, including A-to-D transfers, must comply with the requirements outlined in NS01 and NS02. These resources, and NG05, are available from the Network Library Services website, under Network Documents/Network-produced materials.

The Materials Development Division has developed a software program that aids in the markup of A-to-D transfers by locating major book divisions. NLS plans to make this software, as well as training materials for its use, available to network libraries in the near future.

Contact your network consultant if your library has a recording program and would like to participate in the Network-Produced Audiobooks on BARD pilot program. For questions about the pilot contact Paula Bahmani at [log in to unmask].
