Dear Anne,
I’m writing to follow up on your request for discussion topics. This year we have begun a new collaboration with a local reading series, and are looking to network with/support more across the state. In addition, we’ve held a couple of our own programs at a local brewing company, and we are partnering with the regional library to support their own book discussion series at a local brewing company.
Our programs were held during the Virginia Festival of the Book:
Reading Under the Influence: Blues & Brews (featured music and a history of Beale Street)
Drink & Draw (featured prompts and sketch paper for all, with graphic novelists and illustrators)
The Jefferson-Madison Regional Library discussion series is called Books on Tap.
I’d love to hear from other centers that might be doing anything similar.

Dear Friends and Colleagues,
This year our state center for the book “idea exchange” meeting will be held on Monday, April 25 from 8:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Tuesday, April 26 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. As usual, the reception will follow Monday’s meeting from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Please see the attached TENTATIVE agenda for details.. We are looking for suggestions regarding discussion topics and new collaborations, so please send us your thoughts. Once again, we are offering a $500 stipend to support your participation in the meetings
The Library is in the process of changing its invoice procedures, which means you will need to send your invoice following the meeting to [log in to unmask] (further instructions to follow). I will, however, need to know if you are able to attend so please send me an email requesting the payment in order for us to get you in the Library’s automated system. I will send you the document numbers you need to include on your invoice prior to the meetings.
We were only able to hold 18 rooms on Sunday, April 24 and Monday April 25 at the Capitol Hill Hotel, 200 C Street, SE Washington, DC 20003. The rate is $226 for a Junior Suite – single and $246 for a Superior Suite – double. The hotel tax in the District of Columbia is $14.5%. I was also able to reserve a fewrooms for April 23 and April 26. The cutoff date for making a reservation is March 24 and the hotel will likely be fully booked at this time of year, thus please reserve your room as soon as soon as possible. Please send a summary of your center’s activities since the last meeting to Guy Lamolinara ([log in to unmask]) and to me no later than Friday, April 1. In the interest of brevity, please submit bullet points of no more than two to three sentences each and report on no more than 10 activities. The summaries will be available in a report at the idea exchange.
If you wish to ship brochures, maps, and/or other materials (up to 40 copies each), it is recommended you ship by UPS or FedEx. Due to offsite security, it will take a few weeks to arrive at the Library.
