NLS Operations Alert
DATE : March 31, 2016
TO : Network Libraries
FROM : Meredith Beckhardt, Head, Reference Section
SUBJECT : FY 2016 half year readership and circulation reports
Half year readership and circulation reports for FY 2016 (October 1, 2015, to March 31, 2016) are due. All regional libraries, subregional libraries, and advisory and outreach centers must submit reports by April 15 via the network library database at https://nls.us.baesystems.com/pls/apex/picp/f?p=112.
After logging into the database, make sure all your library organization information is up to date by using the “Update library information (can occur anytime)” link. This information is used in various locations, so complete it as fully as possible.
While entering readership information, remember that NLS considers an active reader or an active deposit collection to be an account that has circulated at least one item in the last twelve months. Also, NLS is gathering information about the circulation of titles (by book number). Braille books should be counted by title, not by volume. Digital talking books should be counted by book number, not by digital cartridge.
After processing your readership and circulation information, recheck the final web screens for the half fiscal year (October 1, 2015, to March 31, 2016) to ensure surveys for both readership and circulation have been accepted into the database. Print a copy of the final submission to keep for your records.
Please see the attached guide, Instructions for Entering Readership and Circulation Statistics, for detailed instructions on how to use the database interface.
