I am checking with the Deutsche Nationalbibliothek, the contributor of the record in VIAF showing the 1931 date.
Sincerely,

The VIAF record ought to be updated, however. Is there an established mechanism for doing that?

Since the 100 form is “Downey, Arthur T.” with no date, there is no need to change that heading nor to add a 400. We only add dates to existing NARs for persons
when we need to break a conflict per LC-PCC 9.19.1.4.
Adding another 670 or two with the correct date of birth is a good thing to do.

A quick reply, Alexis.
I would add a 670 (or more than one) giving the correct birthdate, and change the 100, using the correct birth date. The present 100 can be changed to a 400 with
|w nne indicating that it was an earlier valid form. I would leave in any 670s that gave the incorrect date.

Subject: [PCCLIST] NAR for Downey, Arthur T, and what to do with incorrect ECIP data
Greetings,
I am in the process of upgrading the record for Arthur T. Downey (OCLC ARN 477263, LCCN n 80096255). I see in the second 670 that there is a birthdate which is wrong. According to Lexis Public
Records and Who's Who (http://search.marquiswhoswho.com/profile/100004010278), this Mr. Downey was born August 17, 1937. I also see that the DNB (via VIAF) has this incorrect birthdate as
part of the 100 field (http://viaf.org/processed/DNB%7C1068984007).
My question is this: what do we do with erroneous information in an authority record's 670 field when it comes from ECIP data? Do I insert another note indicating that the ECIP data is wrong,
or can I remove the erroneous information?
Thanks!
