Hi Mary. I don’t actually work with the judges. The judging teams have been pretty consistent since we first started. As new judges join the teams, the experienced team members orient them. Initially the teams visited with the Nebraska Library Commission director about their charge, parameters, etc. I don’t really have any materials that I can give you to help with judging. Thanks, mjr

Mary Jo –

Thanks for sharing your award info. Your nomination form was a perfect model for the one we put together – next time I hope to tighten ours up a bit so it is as sharp looking as yours.

Do you have any materials that you give to your judges to help them select winners that you could share with me? I am working on this element of our NH Literary Awards and could use some examples to work from.

Hi Mary. I don’t have time to give your question my full attention right now BUT I do encourage you to do this. It is a great fund raiser and friend raiser for the organization. I’m tied up with preparation for our Celebration of Nebraska Books (http://centerforthebook.nebraska.gov/programs/celebration.html) where we will be featuring our book award winners, but if you want to know more about our awards, entry forms, etc. see http://centerforthebook.nebraska.gov/awards/nebookawards.html. Best, mjr

Subject: Statewide Book Awards

I am working on statewide book awards for NH (with a partner organization) for next Fall (2016) and am hoping for advice and examples of stuff from those of you who run a general book award in your state. (As opposed to a single-type award like the Firefly or our Ladybug, which we are keeping).

Do you have a nomination form you use?

How much is your entry/nomination fee?

Do you have a timeline or checklist for running the award that you could share with me?

How to you recruit judges?

What should I know before I jump into this --besides “don’t” it is too late for that ;)

Any guidance and examples you can offer will be most appreciated!
