Did you repack the tape before transfer? An uneven tape pack can cause or exacerbate symptoms like that. Obviously, I'd keep my eyes open for bent or warped open reel spools as well. Any place on the guides with a higher than normal accumulation of oxide after playback may point you to a problem area.
