The preferred call number appears to be HV6433.I722I85...:  Terrorism -- Other regions and countries, A-Z (HV6433) -- Iraq (.I72) -- Specific groups, A-Z (2) -- IS (Organization) (I85), followed by additional numbers to shelflist by author or title (34 for Alexander, 37 for Atwan, etc.).  But from LC's shelflist it look as if a lot of people get as far as .I722 and then just cutter by the author instead by the group name as they're supposed to.

Hello all,

In searching for an LC call number for a work about the terrorist group ISIS, I ran across something odd.

If you search for "IS (Organization" as a subject correlation in ClassWeb, you see 72 hits for HV6433.I722.  Looks promising!  However, HV6433.I722 does not exist in the schedule.  When you go into that part of the schedule you see that HV6433 corresponds to "... Terrorism--By region or country--Other regions or countries, A-Z."  When I search in LC's catalog, I do see many works about ISIS cataloged using this call number.

This doesn't seem like the right place in the schedule to class works about particular terrorist organizations that may or may not operate in a particular geographic area.

Ideally, it would be great if the schedules could be expanded so we can class works about particular terrorist organizations together alphabetically under their names.

Can anyone at LC respond to this?

Thank you,
