Hi, Donnie-- I'm basically seconding what Chuck said; we use GA, too, and call the main GA code as a wrapper in the site.html template. That lets us make pretty heavy use of custom dimensions tracking in sub-templates where there's more detailed data we want to track (like the 'page' view, for one). Hope it helps! (Chuck, I'm assuming that's your newspaper server behind you in that picture, which is awesome. If it's not, don't tell me.) ________________________________ Stephanie Williams Digital Projects Programmer [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> | 919-962-4836 North Carolina Digital Heritage Center | digitalnc.org<https://outlook.unc.edu/owa/redir.aspx?C=N-8nuKR7jUS9PaaVyqNqbXTv1DlUr9AIj55oMDWUJwwfNlPnRpIW5sSsu0vdD50GZ1KfqnWxtDE.&URL=http%3a%2f%2fdigitalnc.org%2f> | @ncdhc<https://outlook.unc.edu/owa/redir.aspx?C=N-8nuKR7jUS9PaaVyqNqbXTv1DlUr9AIj55oMDWUJwwfNlPnRpIW5sSsu0vdD50GZ1KfqnWxtDE.&URL=https%3a%2f%2ftwitter.com%2fncdhc> ________________________________ From: Data, API, website, and code of the Chronicling America website <[log in to unmask]> on behalf of Chuck Henry <[log in to unmask]> Sent: Wednesday, October 19, 2016 8:34:15 AM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: Tracking user statistics Donnie, we're using Google Analytics. We're running an older version of Chronam but I embedded the code in root template file. I don't recall what the name of the file is in normal Chronam... base.html? When I redid our templates I used different filenames. Basically whatever that root file is... it's used as the master template for every page in the system. It works pretty well. I developed custom view inside GA that shows me each SN number and how many times it was viewed. I then have a bash script that "enriches" that data with info from the mysql database that we then distribute to our contributors.
