Catalog Systems and Metadata Coordinator

DESCRIPTION
The Metadata Services program connects our UC San Diego community to intellectual and creative content and materials by analyzing, describing, and organizing resources using methods and systems that promote discovery. Under the direction of the Head of Database and Authorities Management, serves as the Catalog Module Coordinator for the UC San Diego Library's ILS/LSP (currently III Millennium), serves as a functional expert for large-scale ETL (Extract, Transform, and Load) functions for the catalogs, coordinates and provides training in the use of all cataloging system and ETL functionality in the ILS/LSP, and provides operational and technical support for staff users of The Library's cataloging system and public access catalog. In addition, leads projects, teams, and initiatives relating to cataloging data, software, and systems, writes and maintains documentation related to the above, and compiles and creates statistical reports for the Metadata Services program.

DESCRIPTION
The Metadata Services program connects our UC San Diego community to intellectual and creative content and materials by analyzing, describing and organizing resources using methods and systems that promote discovery. Working under the direction of the Head of Books and Serials Metadata, the incumbent will develop and apply batch processing techniques, system macros, and other processes that further automate the cataloging of resources. The person will develop and employ processes for large-scale data manipulation and transformation for the creation of bibliographic records and for bibliographic record maintenance. The position will also be responsible for performing primarily original cataloging of electronic monographs and other materials, as well as engaging in bibliographic database and record maintenance.

DESCRIPTION
The Metadata Services program connects our UC San Diego community to intellectual and creative content and materials by analyzing, describing, and organizing resources using methods and systems that promote discovery. Under the direction of the Head of Shared Cataloging Program, the E-package & ETL Specialist has lead responsibility for e-resource packages management, i.e., develops and applies batch processing techniques, system macros, and other process that further automate the cataloging resources. Develops and employs processes for large scale data manipulation and transformation for the creation of bibliographic records and for bibliographic record maintenance. Performs a mixture of original, enhanced, and copy cataloging of Roman script electronic resources, predominantly monographs, and performs related bibliographic database and bibliographic record maintenance. Supports data maintenance of the CDL ERMS and knowledgebase as well as for the SFX CDL instance and knowledgebase. Serves as backup ETL (Extraction, transformation, and loading) specialist for the synchronization and exchange of MARC data between the Shared Cataloging Program and the ten UC campus libraries.
