CCQ Call for Papers: A Festschrift in honor of Valerie Bross
A special issue of Cataloging & Classification Quarterly will be devoted to honoring the memory of Valerie Bross, by advancing knowledge in areas where she was professionally active. She was an active highly respected and long standing member of the CONSER and NASIG communities and a valued colleague who helped establish the UCLA Library as a national leader in continuing resources cataloging during her 18 years at that institution. Valerie contributed to every significant standards development affecting serials cataloging, including the use of single versus separate records to describe print and electronic serials, which data elements are essential to include in a standard cataloging record, and the effectiveness of the cataloging rules in Resource Description and Access. Her work always maintained a focus on service to our users. At UCLA, she effectively built bridges between public services and technical services, and always gently challenged and organized colleagues to explore and learn about the latest developments in our field, such as the Bibliographic Framework Initiative and Linked Data. A lasting legacy of hers will be the incredible number of people she has encouraged, mentored, and helped to develop within the profession. This issue will explore all of these themes, as well as their potential impact on institutions, our users, and society as a whole.
The guest editors invite submissions from professionals in cataloging and metadata, as well as other related disciplines. Submissions by authors outside North America and from a variety of library types (academic, public, special) are encouraged. Case studies, historical surveys, and research studies are all of interest.
Topics of interest include but are not restricted to:
<![if !supportLists]>· <![endif]>Continuing resource cataloging
<![if !supportLists]>· <![endif]>BIBFRAME/Linked Data/Semantic Web initiatives
<![if !supportLists]>· <![endif]>The relation between authority control and URI-based entity management
<![if !supportLists]>· <![endif]>Serving user needs in a Linked Data environment
<![if !supportLists]>· <![endif]>Assessment of related staffing and training issues and needs in the move to BIBFRAME/Linked Data
<![if !supportLists]>· <![endif]>Mentorship and staff development in a constantly changing environment
Cataloging & Classification Quarterly emphasizes full-length research and review articles, descriptions of new programs and technology relevant to cataloging and classification, and considered speculative articles on improved methods of bibliographic control for the future. All submissions will be refereed. For more details, visit the Instructions for Authors page.
