LC and PCC have not yet implemented MARC 21 Update 20, which included 046 $q and $r. Before 046 $q and $r *can* be implemented in LC/NAF, it will be necessary to run a bulk change to all existing $s and $t in NARs with tags 100 and 111, to turn them into $q and $r.

By the same token, $s and $t continue to be used with their old meanings (start date and end date), and can’t be used with their Update 20 meanings (start and end of period of activity) until the above has been done.

Richard

Subject: [PCCLIST] Subfields q and r in the 046

Hello PCC list:

I am trying to add an establishment date (#q) and a termination date (#r) in the 046 for an authority record I am creating.
The record will not validate with these delimeters.

They seem to be valid for MARC 21, but are they not valid for OCLC?
Has anyone else experienced this and, if so, what delimeres did you use instead?

Thanks for your collective help and advice,
Allison
