The comments about the volume of reels being done having an effect on baking times is something I have not observed. What sort of apparatus are you using? We use laboratory grade incubators stable to within half a degree with grated shelving to allow air flow, interior racks to hold tapes separated by at least a few inches each and an air evacuation mechanism to void the moisture extracted from the tapes. We have not detected any effect on needed baking times whether we have one 1/4" reel or twenty in an incubation unit. In fact, we have one unit where we can process 50 3/4" tapes at a time without seeing any loss of effectiveness in the process. Agreed, and you might try putting two hub spacers between each reel for better air circulation. John, From my own observations in baking audio tapes, I've found that the more tapes you bake at one time, the less effective the baking process is. It takes exponentially longer with more reels. 12 seems like a huge amount to be doing at once. Try your regular process, but cut the number of tapes in half and see if it works any better. Of course, I defer to the real experts here, so YMMV.
