Unpaid Digital Metadata Internship Opportunity at the U.S. Food & Drug Administration
Co-located in Silver Spring, MD or Virtual
Internship available with the Office of Planning (OPL) in the Office of the Commissioner at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Silver Spring.
Seeking two part-time Library & Information Science (LIS) graduate students or recent graduates to work with a dynamic, passionate and highly skilled team in support of the Agency’s Drupal migration and possibly other SharePoint projects during the Spring
semester, with the option to start earlier. The internship provides the opportunity to gain high-level professional experience in metadata application and quality assurance, records management, web archiving, and Drupal in a federal information environment.
This internship is located on the FDA White Oak campus in Silver Spring, Maryland, but virtual applicants will also be considered. We offer scheduling flexibility but require a minimum of 10 hours a week commitment.
Selected candidates are encouraged to pursue internship or practicum academic credit options through their institutions.
Work Needed: The FDA is migrating to Drupal for its enterprise web content management and development platform. Help is needed with metadata application, mapping,
and quality control in support of the Office of Planning site migration. This will support good content management, User Experience, search and discovery, and web archiving.
Qualifications: Strong interpersonal and communication skills; working knowledge of digital metadata standards; interest in web and social media, content management,
and web archiving. Must be efficient but detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently.
