I’m late to chime in, but I feel the same way. If it works for the timing for others, then I hope they get the opportunity to host Jack Woodson. I needed to check in with the Texas Book Festival and see if they wanted to partner to bring her to the Texas Teen Book Festival. However, I clicked on the application (I thought it was open until March 2nd?) and it says that time has passed. Perhaps that was the stars saying we are too late? I’m with Patty in encouraging anyone interested to apply. What if she’s going to be in your area and the timing is perfect? It’s Jackie Woodson! However, I suspect there are others who find themselves in the same situation as MD. I would love to host Jackie Woodson. Being in the midst of several important deadlines right now impacts my decision. Being a CFB that’s not at a library, I have a couple of additional steps to work through, like event space. Not insurmountable, but more challenging on a shorter deadline. Choices must be made. I support Sharon’s suggestion about the possibility of CFBs partnering with whatever org in their state hosts Woodson rather than applying independently. Under the current scenario I fear that whatever reason we may not be applying may come across as lack of interest and impact future opportunities. Andrea Andrea D. To All Center for the Book Affiliates— As you know, National Ambassador for Young People's Literature Jacqueline Woodson, winner of the National Book Award (“Brown Girl Dreaming”) and many other honors, began her two-year ambassadorship in January 2018. She will be traveling the nation promoting reading to young people. Her platform is READING = HOPE x CHANGE (What’s Your Equation?), which encourages young people to think about – and beyond – the moment they’re living in, the power they possess and the impact reading can have on showing them ways in which they can create the hope and the change they want to see in the world. Many of our ambassadors have participated in events sponsored by affiliated Centers for the Book. We are offering this opportunity again.
