It says Feb. but I know I saw another email that the date was extended to March 2 I think?

I’m late to chime in, but I feel the same way. If it works for the timing for others, then I hope they get the opportunity to host Jack Woodson. I needed to check in with the Texas Book Festival and see if they wanted to partner to bring her to the Texas Teen Book Festival.  However, I clicked on the application (I thought it was open until March 2nd?) and it says that time has passed.

Perhaps that was the stars saying we are too late?

Warmly,

Rebekah

I’m with Patty in encouraging anyone interested to apply. What if she’s going to be in your area and the timing is perfect? It’s Jackie Woodson!

However, I suspect there are others who find themselves in the same situation as MD. I would love to host Jackie Woodson. Being in the midst of several important deadlines right now impacts my decision. Being a CFB that’s not at a library, I have a couple of additional steps to work through, like event space. Not insurmountable, but more challenging on a shorter deadline. Choices must be made.

I support Sharon’s suggestion about the possibility of CFBs partnering with whatever org in their state hosts Woodson rather than applying independently. Under the current scenario I fear that whatever reason we may not be applying may come across as lack of interest and impact future opportunities.

DE plans to apply but I would encourage anyone/everyone who is considering it to apply too. I suspect that logistics (date, place, etc) will have as much, if not more, to do with who/how many Centers are selected rather than the type of event that is planned.

Thanks,

Patty

Great point Sharon (as usual). I’m debating applying…and wondering what others are planning?

Maybe another point to add to the Ideas Exchange Agenda?

If anyone is set on applying and really wants strongly, please let me know and CA will bow out.

Guy,

I wonder if putting CfBs in competition with one another for ONE exclusive appearance is the best way to build our brand/visibility?  Wouldn't it make more sense for each state CfB to be included as  a partner when the Children's Ambassador is making an official appearance in a state?    It would seem to make much more sense for all to be able to join the party....

Might you all kick this around at LOC?

Thanks. I was wondering too. And the visit fee would be covered but we would host with a community partner etc right ?

Guy,

Is this saying that there will be only one Center (“the chosen center”) that gets a visit from Woodson as Ambassador?

To All Center for the Book Affiliates—

As you know, National Ambassador for Young People's Literature Jacqueline Woodson, winner of the National Book Award (“Brown Girl Dreaming”) and many other honors, began her two-year ambassadorship in January 2018. She will be traveling the nation promoting reading to young people. Her platform is READING = HOPE x CHANGE (What’s Your Equation?), which encourages young people to think about – and beyond – the moment they’re living in, the power they possess and the impact reading can have on showing them ways in which they can create the hope and the change they want to see in the world.

Many of our ambassadors have participated in events sponsored by affiliated Centers for the Book. We are offering this opportunity again.

Please see the link below for more information:

And this link is for the application:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdHmKi2Vt3ooZIUemumnpqMFRqt_I_YJhg6vHLUIciMO8WICA/viewform

Note that the deadline for applications is extended to Friday, March2, 2018, for affiliated Centers for the Book.  The Children’s Book Council says the chosen center will most likely have its visit from Jacqueline in 2019.
