Subject: 2018 National Book Festival - Registration for Travel, Materials, Materials Shipping Support

Dear COSLA Members, Colleagues at Centers for the Book, and other potential participants in the 2018 National Book  Festival,

The 2018 National Book Festival will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at the Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC.  More information about the Festival can be found at  https://www.loc.gov/bookfest/

The annual cooperative agreement between the Chief Officers of State Library Agencies (COSLA) and the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) to provide funding for participation in the National Book Festival Pavilion of States is in the final stages of review.  Although no decision has been announced, we anticipate the availability of a  similar level of funding as has been available in the past to support travel, materials development and materials shipping for the Festival.  At this point we would like to begin collecting from all interested states and territories plans and projected costs.  We’ve put together a registration survey for this purpose and ask that you complete it at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2018NBF by close of business your local time on June 20, 2018.

The survey asks for information you may recognize as being standard from past registrations (indication of your state’s intention to participation; indication of primary contact(s); anticipated number of travelers and estimated travel costs).  This year we are also requesting two additional pieces of information via email to [log in to unmask] within 1 week of completing the registration and asking one new question:

(Additional info request #1) Brief c.v., resume or biographical statement (1 – 2 paragraphs) of individuals whose travel is supported through the funding request, highlighting their qualifications and connections to your state’s State Library Agency, Center for the Book, or other Pavilion of States participating entity;

(Additional info request #2) Examples or descriptions of materials to be used at your exhibit.  We encourage all states to include information about their State Library Agency in exhibits, regardless of which agency(ies) are staffing the exhibit.

(New question) Does your state impose limits or restrictions or otherwise stipulate requirements for the reimbursement of travel expenses (Meal per diem; flights; ground transportation; hotel, etc.) that may impact your eligibility to receive support?  If yes, please provide details.  Accurate reporting of this information will assist us in maximizing distribution of available funds.

For more information, please reply to this email or contact any member of the COSLA team supporting the travel funding initiative:  Laura Woodard ([log in to unmask]) or Timothy Cherubini ([log in to unmask]).
