The Getty Research Institute (GRI) Research Library seeks a creative, forward-looking, collaborative, and service-oriented Cataloging Librarian. The position reports to the Head of Library Technical Services and has a leading role in the workflows that establish and maintain discovery of and access to the library’s published electronic, digital, physical resources, and data sets relating to scholarly art history, humanities, and art conservation in a variety of languages. The position accomplishes this by creating and processing various metadata independently and collaboratively to provide and enhance access to these resources. The position uses professional judgment, applies bibliographic metadata standards and principles to clearly describe materials in order to provide effective access to them using a variety of scholarly research tools. The position has a supporting role in ensuring the integrated discovery and access across this same set of resources. In addition, the position works collaboratively in a metadata team with other catalogers, and with other internal units and external organizations that provide or use the metadata.

The Getty Research Institute (GRI) Research Library seeks a creative, forward-looking, collaborative, and service-oriented Electronic and Digital Resources Librarian. The position reports to the Head of Library Technical Services and has a leading role in the workflows that establish and maintain discovery of and access to the library’s electronic resources licensed locally and consortially through the Statewide California Electronic Library Consortium (SCELC). The position also has a leading role in providing cataloging and bibliographic metadata related to internal and external electronic resources and locally digitized resources. The position has a supporting role in ensuring the integrated discovery and access across this same set of resources. In addition, the position serves as the Library’s primary contact with SCELC, vendors, and publishers, and Library staff regarding discovery and access issues associated with the Library’s licensed electronic resources. As a key member of a cross-unit electronic resources management team, the position coordinates with various Library units for managing electronic resources in such functions as acquisitions, cataloging, collection development, and user services. The position also collaborates internally regarding bibliographic metadata related to digitized resources. The position plays an active role in the Library’s e-resource related training, projects, and initiatives.

 

Major Job Responsibilities:

 

Qualifications:

·         MLIS from an ALA-accredited library school; graduate degree in Art History or a related discipline preferred. 

·         Minimum 2-3 years professional experience

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

·         Working knowledge of industry standards related to serials and e-resources. Familiarity with copyright, fair use, and other intellectual property issues as they pertain to e-resources and license agreements.
