Hi Everyone -

Please join us for the next in our regular monthly series of free
Department of the Interior Library Park Ranger Speaker Series lectures,
entitled "The German Kaiserschlacht Offensive" on Tuesday, August 21st from
1:00 - 1:45 pm in the Stewart Lee Udall Department of the Interior
Building's Rachel Carson Room.

During the latter stages of World War I in 1918, the Germans attempted to
turn the tide against the Allies. They wished to change their fortunes
before the Americans, who had just joined the Allied effort, had an impact
on the Western Front. Since Russia pulled out of the war in late 1917, the
Germans saw this as an opportunity to gamble to force the French to
armistice terms, defeat the British, and not have to deal with the
onslaught of the American doughboys. General Erich Ludendorff of the German
High Command orchestrated this offensive that historically became known as
Kaiserschlacht, or Kaiser's Battle. This spring offensive, which began in
March and continued into the summer of 1918, would have pivotal
consequences for the remainder of the war.

Please join Park Ranger Paul O’Brian as we commemorate the 100th
anniversary of the end of World War I by looking back at the Kaiserschlacht
offensive. Learn how and why the Kaiser's Battle would became so important
as part of the final chapter of 1918.
All that are interested are invited. The Rachel Carson Room is located in
the basement level of the Stewart Lee Udall Department of the Interior
Building, towards the back of and adjacent to the Interior Department
cafeteria. The Stewart Lee Udall Department of the Interior Building is
located at 1849 C Street, NW in Washington. Space for the program is
