Dear CHRONAM-USERS,
The Library of Congress has released an update to the Chronicling America website that includes some long-awaited changes to both the operating environment, data changes, and some minor changes
to functionality.
Software and Data Updates:

Deployed Chronicling America software and underlying data to Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud-based environment
·
Updated web page caching schedule to allow exposure to new data additions more regularly
·
Updated hit highlighting functionality on thumbnails and page images to improve accuracy of search retrieval
·
Updated batch names to no longer include “batch_” prefix in user interface displays
·
Updated records in US Newspaper Directory (Sept 2018)
·
Added new NDNP essays and batch content
·
Added functionality to the bulk OCR extraction process that will report its success or failure events at
http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/events/
Minor Bug Fixes:
·
Updated character encoding causing display problems with diacritics and special characters in essays
·
Fixed bug causing date range picker in advanced search form to display incorrect date options
·
Fixed bug in OCR bulk download extraction script
