We’ve noticed that controlled headings in OCLC bib records have mostly been flipping to reflect the changed headings, which is great. I’ve had to correct the ones that included “Region” and “Metropolitan Area” as free-floating additions to a city or other place, because OCLC didn’t (couldn’t) automatically change the qualifier used with those. I assume that LC subject headings in your bib records will also get changed, but we’ve come across records that have the former place names in children’s subjects (e.g. 651 _1 Swaziland $v Maps). Will the children’s subjects in bibs also get updated by LC?

LC’s Policy and Standards Division is currently working on projects to update all of the name and subject authority records that need to be changed to reflect the new country names Eswatini and North Macedonia. The country Eswatini was formerly Swaziland. The country North Macedonia was formerly Macedonia (Republic).
There is no need to report NARs that have not been updated as errors. We appreciate your patience and understanding while we make these changes.
Note that government body names established as a subdivision of the national jurisdiction such as Swaziland. Parliament do not need to be changed as these are valid for use before the name change from Swaziland to Eswatini. Catalogers should create new NARs as needed for these government bodies.
I assure you that a new NAR has been created for North Macedonia. Unless you work at LC you will not be able to see it now because I created it today. OCLC will receive this record as part of the normal distribution so it should be visible to you soon.
