My guess is that the assumption was that the names were meant to distinguish art (for Beauty and the Beast, pictures by Erica Ducornet, a name used early on) and fiction (The Stain, by Rikki Ducornet) from poetry (Rikki, several volumes). The counter argument would be that the author did not intend these to be separate bodies of work (other poetry volumes have appeared under Rikki Ducornet; and Erica appears to be a long abandoned form of name). Definitive evidence would be a statement from Ducornet. As it stands, the evidence is ambiguous; but I agree that Adam was reading the authority records' intent correctly.

But, I guess I'm arguing that she doesn't have two pseudonyms. Is excluding a last name enough justification to count as a substantially different pseudonym? Rikki Ducornet is clearly the preferred name the author currently uses and publishes with. Why would we maintain three separate records for this author just because she used three different variations of her name?

Oh, I should have looked at the authorities before I replied!   Bad bad me!

This is a situation of a person who has two pseudonyms, and the authority records clearly show that:

They don’t get merged.  Each pseudonym gets its own authority, along with a record for the real identity (above).  And they are all linked together as you can see.

Amber,

1) NACO library decides which record to keep

2) NACO library moves any necessary fields over from the records that will be deleted, making variant access points ($w nne or $w nnea as appropriate) for the 1XXs on the to-be-deleted records

3) NACO library reports the records to be cancelled to LC Coop, along with any BFM that LC will need to do

4) If record to be kept isn’t yet RDA, it must be upgraded to RDA as well

At my library, in addition, we will clean up the access points in OCLC records so that they are controlled to the record being kept.

Hello PCC Folks,

The following three records are all the same person:

Ducornet, Rikki, 1943-

Rikki, 1943-

Ducornet, Erica, 1943-

The author clearly goes by Rikki Ducornet:

She is an alumnae of my institution as well.

I would think the three records should all be merged into one record, right? If so, how do I go about doing this?

Many thanks,

Amber Billey
