GIS fans,

GIS DAY 2019 is quickly approaching and I wanted to let all of you know that Senator John Boozman (AR), Chair of the Senate French Caucus, and co-sponsor of the Geospatial Data Act, will be giving the opening Keynote address to the program entitled: In the Shadow of Notre Dame: Geographic Information Science (GIS), Three-Dimensional Mapping and Cultural Heritage Preservation. The program will be held on November 13th in LJ-119 from 9-2:30, followed by an joint open house with the Prints and Photographs Division in the Geography Map Reading Room.

·         Opening Remarks, Librarian of Congress --Carla Hayden

·         Cultural Heritage Preservation, Mapping and Congressional Policy –Senator John Boozman (AR)

·         Notre Dame and its Aftermath – Andre Comeaux, Preservation Architect, Cathedral Reconstruction Team

·         National Park Service—GIS, Disaster Response and Cultural Heritage Preservation –two talks, one by Diedre McCarthy, Chief, Cultural Resources GIS Facility, NPS & one by Catherine Lavoie, Historic American Buildings Survey, NPS.

Afternoon


·         Historic Building and Engineering Archives in Cultural Preservation –Prints and Photographs Division

·         Three-Dimensional Mapping, Advanced Spatial Analysis and Cultural Preservation –Kenneth Walton, National Capital Planning Commission

·         Drones over Lhasa: documenting UNESCO Heritage sites using 3D mapping and GIS –Scholars Lab, University of Virginia.

·         Closing Remarks –John Hessler​
