Hello David,

The first of the approaches, "name changes are handled as they are for conventional corporate names, i.e. establishing each name separately with 510 references", is what you want, because 'active' cemeteries are in Group One of H405 in the Subject Headings Manual. You should establish the cemetery name that you need in your bibliographic record, which I assume is Akron Rural Cemetery.

You don't need to go on to establish the later name and do reciprocal 510 links unless you need that later name, too. If you don't establish the later name, it is desirable that you give information in a 670 field about the name change, and include a 667 field along the lines of "Later name also a valid RDA access point: Glendale Cemetery (Glendale, Ohio)". That serves the purpose that a 510 later-name reference would otherwise serve.

Greetings-

I'm cataloging a 19th century document about the Akron Rural Cemetery. It is now known as the Glendale Cemetery (https://www.glendaleakron.com/). I understand that cemeteries are established as corporate entities (x10 headings). Does it follow that name changes are handled as they are for conventional corporate names, i.e. establishing each name separately with 510 references? Or are all names for the cemetery handled in 110 and 410 access points on a single authority record? I tried looking for recent examples in the authority file, without luck.

Thanks for any help you might be able to provide,
David-
