If one needs to be an expert on these topics to be a member of
ARSC, I'm in the wrong group.  In fact, I don't even provide a service
to the cloistered denizens of academe.  I fear I may also be a "dude,"
so I've got three strikes against me. :-)

Ms. Rowe certainly didn't intend it, but this comes across as terribly
elitist and uninviting to others not of her profession.  And we are
talking here about making the ARSC a more inviting institution, are
we not?  As Dr Biel pointed out, ARSC covers a broad base of
membership.  Let's all strive to keep it that way.
