NLS Operations Alert
No. 20-44
DATE : July 13, 2020
TO : Network libraries
FROM : Kristen Fernekes, Communications and Outreach Section Head
SUBJECT : Alternatives to mail delivery of
Talking Book Topics
Network libraries report that some patrons who subscribe to the large-print edition of
Talking Book Topics have not yet received the May/June issue in the mail. The issue was mailed out to subscribers in the first week of June, but pandemic-related stresses on the US Postal Service might have delayed some deliveries.
We want to remind network libraries that patrons can also access HTML and PDF versions of
TBT
on the NLS website. In the HTML version, in fact, patrons can click on the title of a book to access BARD (sign-in required), where they can download the book or add it to their wish list. The July/August issue of
TBT, which is scheduled to mail in early August, is already posted on the website.
Audio versions of
TBT are available on BARD. Patrons can search for current or back issues of
TBT under “Find Magazines and Other Materials” (sign-in required). If they choose to subscribe to the audio version of
TBT, new issues will automatically be added to their BARD wish list. They can also get the audio version of
TBT through the Magazine on Cartridge (MOC) program, though cartridges may be subject to similar mail delays.
Libraries can order additional copies of
Talking Book Topics via the
Web Ordering Warehouse (WOW) on PICS.
Access PICS using your shared library credentials.
Thank you for helping patrons who are experiencing problems with mail delivery find alternative ways to get
TBT and stay connected to the program in these challenging times.
