Please join us via webinar for our next free Department of the Interior Library Park Ranger Speaker Series lecture, entitled "Beyond the 19th: The Transformation of Women's Rights and Opportunities" on Tuesday, May 18th from 1:00 - 2:00 pm ET.

Even though the 70-year struggle to secure the right to vote was finally won with the passage of the 19th Amendment in 1920, women still found themselves on unequal ground. As a result, the women’s movement has continued to grow and evolve over the past 100 years. Belmont-Paul Women’s Equality National Monument Ranger Lorne Hemlock will examine the National Woman’s Party’s role in key milestones like the inclusion of gender equality language in the UN Charter and the inclusion of sex-based employment protections in Title VII of the Civil Rights Act. In addition to examining the ways women’s rights have expanded, the program will explore the story of the Equal Rights Amendment and the organizations that fought for and against it.
