Just a quick note (can't search right now) - I remember hearing a documentary in German radio in on his protest and death, likely around 1997-98, and likely on NDR or WDR (Norddeutscher Rundfunk or Westdeutscher Rundfunk). I know that's vague, but I hope the lead might be useful.
