Hi Everyone - Please join us via webinar for our next free Department of the Interior Library Park Ranger Speaker Series lecture, entitled "Women's Suffrage in Black and White" on Tuesday, October 19th from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm ET. The fight for women’s suffrage lasted for over seven decades, from the Seneca Falls Convention in 1848 to the ratification of the 19th Amendment in 1920. African American women joined the struggle for women’s equality from its earliest days but often found themselves pushed aside and marginalized by white suffragists. The National Park Service commemorated the centennial of women’s enfranchisement, one of the most significant expansions of democracy in the nation’s history, while recognizing this difficult aspect of the story. Please join Park Ranger Susan Philpott for a discussion about the role of Black women in the struggle for women's suffrage as we examine the erasures and silences of history.
