I thought you might enjoy seeing the Louisiana Great Reads chronology with cover images we’ve created in case you might want to do something similar for your state. The numbers weren’t adding up to 20 until I realized one Louisiana book was selected two years in a row for some reason.
It has been useful for various reports and just for showing one way we support Louisiana authors and books. Besides, I just like looking at it. As new authors are added, they enjoy seeing their books and names added to the document.
Don’t ask me how Breach of Faith was chosen, though an excellent book about Katrina; that was the year before my time at the State Library of Louisiana CFB. Maybe the thought was that it was suitable for YA and mature MG as recent history of the event they lived through.
We’ll be adding When I Was an Alligator by Gayle Webre as this year’s selection.

All—Sharon is right. We began the Great Reads lists for the second NBF, in 2002, so 2021 was the 20th time we did so.
Here are the lists of all previous titles:

Last year 2021 was the 20th year. Pretty sure we mentioned that as we were planning the first year of videos. I know we used that info in our press releases

Someone may very well have mentioned this before, but I personally just realized that this is the 20th Anniversary of the Great Reads from Great Places. Right? Did the initiative start in 2002? I didn't see anything earlier than that year at https://read.gov/greatreads/downloads.html
If so, this really is the perfect year to begin to include adult selections.
Wishing everyone a good Memorial Day Weekend.
