The Library of Congress Radio Preservation Task Force invites you to the
third virtual presentation in a three-part series of online talks on
copyright regarding radio collections. This one-hour talk will include a
presentation with time for questions and answers. For our third
presentation, we welcome Brandon Butler for a discussion around fair use
and risk aversion.

Brandon Butler is currently the Director of Information Policy focuses on
such matters as intellectual property, copyright, licensing and user
privacy as they are related to the acquisition, dissemination and
preservation of various forms of information and cultural artifacts, and as
they are related to scholarly communication. He serves as an expert
consultant to UVA librarians, to groups and individuals within the
University, and to national and international efforts focused on relevant
questions. He provides guidance and expertise to the Library as it develops
plans and strategies to address the challenges that it faces as a leading
university research library. He also serves as an advocate for creative
legal strategies to help the University Library advance the institution’s
mission “to record, preserve, and disseminate the results of intellectual
discovery and creative endeavor.” As Director of Public Policy Initiatives
at ARL, he represented the Association in a variety of policy matters, and
was co-principal investigator of a project to develop and promote what
instantly became the widely-respected Code of Best Practices in Fair Use
for Academic and Research Libraries.
