Position Description

The John F. Reed Library is seeking an energetic, innovative
professional to join their dynamic team.  This individual will be
responsible for coordinating the planning, installation, training, and
operations support for computer hardware/software for the library and
audiovisual departments.  He/She will also manage networks dedicated to
library functions (including the integrated system) stand-alone and
networked CD-ROM systems, Internet resources, as well as library and AV
office automation.  This person will report to the Director of the
Library/AV Services.  (Position available July 1, 1997.)


Configures and supports the library=92s file servers and workstations;
manages INNOPAC (III), the library=92s new integrated online system,
CD-ROM towers, CD-ROM software, as well as Internet-based products.=20
Works closely with library and audiovisual coordinators and Computing
and Telecommunications Services staff in planning changes and upgrades
to networked library computers and integrated system.  Also responsible
for Electronic Classroom in the Reed Library. Develops and presents
workshops for faculty and students on appropriate technology topics. =20
Plans technology budgets; conducts staff training as necessary; works
with CIS in developing access mechanisms; coordinates long-range
planning for the continued integration of information technology into
library.  Works with Electronic Learning Committee.  Coordinates
hardware/software procurement with CIS; installation, documentation,
security, and troubleshooting hardware/software as well as related
contracts and vendor accounts.  Employs and supervises student workers.


Master=92s degree in CIS or Library Science or recent equivalent
professional experience with management of automated library system (2
years).  B.S./B.A. required.  Experience with UNIX, Local Area Networks,
C++ programming, MS Windows and microcomputer installations.  Strong
written and oral communications skills.  Experience with library
automation systems and multimedia desirable.

Fort Lewis College

Fort Lewis College is part of the Colorado State University system and
is a public, four-year liberal arts undergraduate college.  Current
enrollment is approximately 4,400 students.  Approximately 12% of the
student body is Native American of whom a large proportion comes from
the Southwest.  Durango is located in Southwestern Colorado in the
beautiful valley of the San Juan Mountains, surrounded by peaks reaching
over 14,000 feet in elevation.  There are numerous possibilities for
hunting, fishing, hiking, skiing, river sports and a myriad of other
outdoor activities.  The city has a population of approximately 14,000.


Minimum of $32,000 with benefits.
