Members of the Consortium are committed to maintaining and expanding a public service that integrates all aspects of information access for cultural, educational, business, social and personal development. Readiness - Research and Development in Networked Subject Services - is a two year project managed by EARL and funded by the British Library Research and Innovation Centre. Readiness will research and evaluate the processes and effectiveness of collaborative development of networked subject services. A Senior Project Officer will manage the project, co-ordinate the work of the subject groups and the evaluation, and support the implementation and promotion of a wide range of demonstrator services. The Networked Services Development Manager will act half-time as technical adviser and facilitator to the project, and otherwise as manager of all EARL's networked services and as the focal point of expertise to all members of the consortium : for web design, distributed indexing, for text and structured database searching, document delivery, digitisation, archiving and cacheing. For Readiness he or she will be responsible for organising collaborative working, advising groups, preparing workshops, and implementing the systems and services for the demonstrator projects. They should have experience of maintaining a Unix-based web service, and across all current aspects of networked information management and their integration into a service environment. The salary for the post is L18k-L22k. The appointment will be to the staff of LASER, and is for a fixed term of 2 years.
