REQUESTED CHANGE: More flexibility in use of <unitloc>, which should be valid at any point within a finding aid. In a finding aid, physical location (such as box) may change within the intellectual unit being described. In many finding aids, we have folder lists arranged alphabetically or chronologically, into which are inserted box numbers. The boxes are not part of the intellectual arrangement, but merely necessary for retrieval. Example of proposed use: <DSC TYPE="COMBINED"> <HEAD>Series Descriptions</HEAD> <C LEVEL="SERIES"> <DID> <HEAD>Correspondence and related papers</HEAD> <UNITID> HUG FP 136.15 </UNITID> <UNITTITLE>Correspondence and related papers, <DATE>1890-1947</DATE></UNITTITLE><PHYSDESC><EXTENT>10 boxes</EXTENT></PHYSDESC></DID> <SCOPECONTENT><P>Contains correspondence ... </P></SCOPECONTENT> <ARRANGEMENT><P>Arranged alphabetically.</P></ARRANGEMENT> <DSC TYPE="IN-DEPTH"> <Unitloc>Box 1<unitloc> <C LEVEL="FILE"><UNITTITLE>[Adams 1934]</UNITTITLE></C> <C LEVEL="FILE"><UNITTITLE>Albany Literary Gazette [1934]</UNITTITLE></C> <C LEVEL="FILE"><UNITTITLE>Alden</UNITTITLE></C> <C LEVEL="FILE"><UNITTITLE>American Council [of] Learned Societies</UNITTITLE></C> <unitloc>Box 2<unitloc> <C LEVEL="FILE"><UNITTITLE><TITLE>American and Foreign Anti-Slavery Reporter [1934]</TITLE></UNITTITLE></C> <C LEVEL="FILE"><UNITTITLE>Amesbury Villager [1934-36]</UNITTITLE></C> <C LEVEL="FILE"><UNITTITLE>Appalachian Mountain Club</UNITTITLE></C> <C LEVEL="FILE"><UNITTITLE>Currier, Florence W. [1937, 1939]</UNITTITLE></C> <C LEVEL="FILE"><UNITTITLE>Et cetera...</UNITITLE></C> </DSC> </C> </DSC> Currently, in order to validate, we are putting each box into a separate <C> so that the box number can go into <ODD>. This seems contrary to the appropriate use of the <C> element, which should be marking up intellectual order.
