Thomas Cooper Library, University of South Carolina. The library seeks a dynamic reference librarian who will provide information service to students and faculty in the humanities and social sciences. Duties include providing service at a busy reference desk, with some evenings and weekends; conducting library instruction sessions and general tours; database searching; assisting patrons with the NOTIS system and various CD-ROM products; selecting library materials for one or more subject areas and serving as a liaison for departments in these areas. The University of South Carolina enrolls 17,000 undergraduate students and 8,000 graduate students on the Columbia campus. The Thomas Cooper Library contains 2.4.million volumes, 3.4 million microforms; provides access to a wide variety of databases through CD-ROMs, the mainframe, and the Internet; operates with OCLC and NOTIS systems; and is a member of the Association of Research Libraries. Qualifications Required: Master's degree awarded from an ALA accredited library school; effective oral and written communication skills; ability to work successfully with colleagues and staff; ability to teach effectively; familiarity with Internet, online and CD-ROM searching; academic background in the social sciences or humanities, and some reference desk experience. Desirable: 1-2 years reference experience, facility in at least one foreign language and computer literacy/proficiency. Salary is $24,000 minimum for 12 months. Salary dependent on qualifications and experience. Faculty status, tenure-track. Benefits include medical, dental state retirement or optional retirement plan.
