In co-operation with the National Council on Archives, the PRO is to host a
conference on 29 September 1998 which will be open to all archivists,
whether in local authority, university, specialist or national record
offices, on the theme of options for automation and networking.  The issues
to be discussed will include international and national data exchange, the
establishment of a national archive network and regional networks, as well
as the prospects for funding of IT projects by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
There will be presentations and demonstrations by four of the leading
suppliers of archival cataloguing systems, as well as an opportunity to see
the latest developments at the PRO.

The provisional programme for the day is as follows:
