Bortz" <[log in to unmask]> Subject: Position Announcement To: [log in to unmask] ----------------------------Original message---------------------------- POSITION AVAILABLE JACKSON STATE COMMUNITY COLLEGE JACKSON, TENNESSEE 38301-3797 POSITION REFERENCE AND INSTRUCTION LIBRARIAN APPOINTMENT DATE: JULY 1, 1998 DUTIES: Provide information service to library patrons using traditional printed resources, online databases, CD-ROM resources and the Internet; maintain the library's Web pages; plan for and provide the library's instructional program, including the development of library teaching materials, both in print and multi-media; consult with teaching faculty and library staff in planning and developing class assignments involving library use; aid in evaluation and development of the library reference collection; prepare records/statistics concerning library instruction and reference transactions; assist in preparation of specialized bibliographies; supervise Public Services Clerk; work 44 weeks including 1 night per week and 7-8 Saturdays per year and during the summer when school is in session. REQUIREMENTS: MLS from American Library Association accredited library school; computer skills, including design of Web pages and use of presentation software, such as Powerpoint; good communication skills; customer service-oriented experience; experience with electronic reference databases and Internet; ability to work with diverse clientele; ability to work as a member of a team; capable of moving around the library to assist patrons; willingness to learn new technologies. THE LIBRARY: The Jackson State Community College Library is the center for research and study on campus. The library's holdings include 55,000 books, 400 periodicals, and over 1000 video and audiotapes. The library uses many electronic resources, including EBSCOHOST MASTERFILE 650, SIRS, FIRSTSEARCH, ERIC, CINAHL and NEWSBANK. The automation system utilizes DRA. There is full Internet access in the library also. The library also maintains a Learning Resources Center at two off-campus centers. There are four professional librarians and four paraprofessional / clerical staff THE CAMPUS Jackson State Community College is an accredited public, non-residential institution which emphasizes open admissions.
