The discussion about student work is, I think, really interesting. At the risk of a slight "commercial," I'd like to call your attention to an article that appeared in the May/June issue of MultiMedia Schools magazine (http://www.infotoday.com/MMSchools) about publishing student work online. Cathy de Moll is a friend of mine and a fascinating person who has launched all on her own an online project-based service called OnlineClass. In this article, she talks about the power of self-expression and how "real" publication entices students to excel. Her specific example is with creative writing. Take a look; it may make you smile. The full text should be online at the above URL. While I am at it, there's still more of interest in this issue to American Memory fellows. Linda Joseph's CyberBee column features American Memory collections, and our very own Judy Graves has contributed a great piece about how to construct offline tools for online access.
