The vacancy announcement follows: JOB ANNOUNCEMENT POSITION:Director, Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped LOCATION:Tennessee State Library & Archives DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Administration and guidance of all programs of the Library of Congress, National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, including collection development, organization, and maintenance; staff selection and training; policies and procedures; information and referral services; budget planning. Plan and direct programs of public information throughout the state; work with other section directors and the administration of the State Library and Archives to develop and implement long range plans for improved services. Assist the Tennessee Regional Library System with implementation of programs for the blind and physically handicapped. QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must have an ALA-accredited MLS degree; a minimum of five years of professional experience in library work, including two years of administrative experience; and demonstrate knowledge in program development, library administration and computer technology as they relate to the blind and physically handicapped. Preference given to candidates with prior experience in LBPH programs and knowledge of recommended procedures and practices as enumerated in the National Library Service Network Library Manual and the American Library Association Revised Standards and Guidelines of Service for the Library of Congress Network of Libraries for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. Ability to adapt and work effectively in a changing diverse and automated environment.
